Clare Morris is Professor of Medical Education and Head of Research for the Institute of Health Sciences Education. Clare brings highly developed strategic leadership and operational management skills to this post, having led multi-disciplinary teams in both academic and clinical environments.
Clare’s research and scholarship is in the field of workplace based learning. She is a qualitative researcher, with experience in policy analysis, observational methods and in-depth interviewing. Her work is theoretically driven, drawing on socio-cultural theories of learning and often dealing with interplay of policy and practice e.g. exploring the impact of NHS reform on medical apprenticeship. She is interested in interventionist research methodologies, drawing on the tools of activity theory and how these might enable clinicians and academics to envision and implement new ways of working.
Clare has an established track record of supporting the development of medical, dental and healthcare professionals as researchers, scholars, educators and leaders. She has twice been nominated for a National Teaching Fellowship on the basis of her innovative, engaging and creative curriculum design and pedagogic practice and is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Clare is currently Chair of the Educational Research Committee for ASME (Association for the Study of Medical Education) and a member of the International Faculty Development Committee for AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe).
