Prof. Andrew Prendergast
Andrew Prendergast is Director of the HEAL Doctoral Training Programme and a Professor of Paediatric Infection and Immunology at Queen Mary University of London. He came to QMUL in 2011 on a Wellcome Intermediate Clinical Fellowship, then progressed to a Senior Clinical Fellowship before being made Professor in 2019. He is based for half the year in Zimbabwe where he is Director of the Zvitambo Institute for Maternal and Child Health Research – a multidisciplinary public health research institute whose mission is to help children survive and thrive through research. His research spans both UK and global child health research, and focuses on infectious diseases, malnutrition, and healthy birth, growth and development. His group combines mechanistic laboratory work, exploring the links between infection, immunity and malnutrition, with pragmatic public health trials. He is an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Infection and Immunology at the Royal London Hospital.
