A New Vital Cancer Tissue Culture Facility

Cancer research is a major area of excellence at Queen Mary University of London. We are founding partner of the Cancer Research UK City of London Centre, which is revolutionising the way cancer research is conducted in the city. In the past few years, research in this area at Queen Mary has led to significant discoveries, which have made a real impact on medical treatment and clinical service nationwide. Among our key successes, we can name: a potentially revolutionary new treatment for bladder cancer, the NHS implementation of mammography screenings to increase early breast cancer detection and proving the efficacy of cervical screening was age dependent, which has led to an annual saving of £17.5 million to the NHS.

Chellaram Foundation has generously helped us to fully equip a new Tissue Culture Suite, located within our Cancer Research Centre.

Used by approximately 50 people, the facility will be critical for our core work, as it will help researchers to better study and understand different types of cancer cells and their molecular biology. This suite will enable the accomplishment of vitally important research projects, which involve cell culture, consultation, training, screening and testing, and molecular biology.

We are incredibly grateful to Chellaram Foundation for this gift, and we are looking forward towards a long and successful partnership, for years to come.
