Community Based Medical Education (CBME)

GEP - GP1

Students will attend a general practice placement, in groups of 6-8, for 14 days on alternate Thursdays throughout the academic year. Each day is themed and has specific learning outcomes, outlined in the sections below.

To provide students with opportunities to communicate with patients and gain an understanding of the patient experience of health and social determinants over the course of their lives.

  • 14 alternate Thursdays throughout the academic year.
  • 6 - 8 students.
  • Teaching will take place in person.
  • Small group tutorials
  • Interviewing clinicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Interviewing patients 
  • Self-directed learning
  • Debrief on patient encounters and provide feedback to all students

*These will vary but could contain the above 

  1. Reflective creative enquiry on professional identity + written summary  (due in January)
  2. Reflective case-based discussion on a patient encounter + written summary (due in April)
  3. Satisfactory attendance and professionalism
  • £6,720 for 6 students
  • £8,960 for 8 students 

NB: sessional payment rates increase with the number of teaching sessions offered
