Profile

  • Be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the teaching laboratories and the teaching technical team including forward planning, as well as day to day management of laboratory resources.
  • Ensure provision of a high quality technical support service by all members of the teaching technical team.
  • Ensure that work in the teaching laboratories is conducted in line with all University and School policies on Health and Safety and Ethics. 
  • Providing training to demonstrators to safely run practical classes and supporting the School with demonstrators allocation and recording of their working hours.
  • Be responsible for preparing and running practical classes in periods of need.
  • Forge good working relationships with academics and ensure that the teaching technical team provides professional technical advice and technical support.
  • Working with academics in designing new practical classes to provide the students with more updated lab techniques and skills.
  • Develop and maintain health and safety practices within the teaching laboratories and be responsible for maintaining a positive safety culture acting as an exemplar in this area.
  • Promote Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) in the teaching labs.
