Types of DBS Checks
This page provides guidance on the types of DBS checks we can complete, further information can be found on the Gov.uk webpage.
There are four main types of DBS check the FLT can action. The level needed depends on the activity, role or setting and not every activity is eligible for every level of check.
Standard, Enhanced and Enhanced with Barred List checks are subject to eligibility rules. The appropriate level depends on the activity, role, placement or research setting. This table gives some general guidance on the types of checks offered but please consult the Gov.UK Eligibility Tool for comprehensive guidance.

Basic DBS check |
Can be used for any purpose, including employment. Individuals can apply directly through the government route where appropriate. |
Unspent convictions and conditional cautions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. |

Standard DBS check |
Used for certain roles that are eligible for a Standard check. |
Spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer that are not subject to filtering. |

Enhanced DBS check |
Used for eligible activity involving children or adults in certain circumstances, including some settings involving healthcare or personal care. |
The same information as a Standard check, plus relevant non-conviction information supplied by police where appropriate. |

Enhanced DBS check with Barred List check |
Used only where the activity is eligible for a check of one or both DBS Barred Lists. |
The same information as an Enhanced DBS certificate, plus a check of one or both DBS Barred Lists. |
