Published:

Professor Cowley writes for the Times' Red Box on Liz Truss' comment that the “left-wing economic orthodoxy” was the result of her downfall. He notes that Truss never said the phrase itself and that all the best political quotes were never really said, using examples from the Blair government, James Callaghan, and Lenin among others.

He writes: There is an interesting debate to be had about whether these quotes survive because they are somehow characteristic of the individuals to whom they are attributed."
