Who is winning the ground war in London?
Labour’s huge membership compared to the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats means it is having more contact with voters in London – but this advantage seems to disappear in the capital’s marginal seats. Professors Tim Bale and Philip Cowley outline the latest findings from the Mile End Institute’s latest YouGov survey of voters in London to assess the potential impact of active party members in London’s marginal seats. They write: “This slim Labour advantage is perhaps not what we would expect given the parties’ size. Yes, Labour has a more impressive ground operation across all of London but in the seats where the election will be won or lost its advantage appears to be slim at best.”
