Research by Queen Mary’s Mile End Institute was featured in a Times Red box article about the lack of women in conservative leadership roles. The article reads: “The process of choosing a new leader is twofold: first, Conservative MPs — of whom 79 per cent are men — pick their top two in a series of ballots. Then, the decision goes to the Conservative Party membership. Research by Queen Mary University of London last year shows that 71 per cent of Conservative members are men, 97 per cent of them are white and 44 per cent are over the age of 65.”
