Bashar al-Assad’s international rehabilitation has begun

Published:

Dr Christopher Phillips published an article for The Washington Post on Syria’s embattled president, Bashar al-Assad. He writes: “Assad will welcome any return to the Arab League, but its significance should not be overstated. On the one hand Syria was far from isolated throughout its civil war, and on the other it remains a long way from reconciling with western governments and Turkey. Not that this will overly concern Damascus. The Assad regime has decades of experience withstanding western and regional sanctions and isolation, most recently in the mid 2000s.”
