Our Research - Telecomms, Mobile and Networks

The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science delivers world-class research and applies it to real-world problems.

As a multidisciplinary school, our researchers collaborate with people across many fields, including psychologists, musicians, actors, mathematicians, medical researchers and lawyers.

We are well known for our pioneering research and pride ourselves on our world-class projects. We are ranked 8th in the UK for Computer Science and Informatics research (REF 2021) and 7th in the UK for Engineering research (REF 2021). Research in the School is centred around a number of research groups.

Dr Sukhpal Singh Gill - Predicting the growth and trend of COVID-19 pandemic using machine learning and cloud computing

Dr Sukhpal Singh Gill, Lecturer in Cloud Computing and member of the Networks Research Group, discusses his recent work on COVID-19. This work was published in the Elsevier-IoT Journal.

Dr Lorenzo Jamone - Robotic Sense of Touch

The video describes soft tactile sensors based on magnetism. Two families of sensors are presented, inspired by two different receptors in the human skin. These sensors are used in different applications to enable robots to collect information about the external environments; for example, to manipulate delicate objects, and to check whether fruits are ripe or rotten. This research was done at CRISP (https://lorejam.wixsite.com/crisp), part of the Advanced Robotics group at Queen Mary.
