Our research - Computing and Data Science

The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary delivers world-class electronic engineering and computer science research and applies it to real-world problems.

As a multidisciplinary school, our researchers collaborate with people across many fields, including psychologists, musicians, actors, mathematicians, medical researchers and lawyers.

We are well known for our pioneering research and pride ourselves on our world-class projects. We are ranked 8th in the UK for Computer Science and Informatics research (REF 2021) and 7th in the UK for Engineering research (REF 2021). Research in the School is centred around a number of research groups.

Check out some of our research in the fields of computing and data science:

Professor Matthew Purver - Analysing Conversation

Analysing Conversation - making sense of what we say to each other. Professor Matthew Purver, Head of the Computational Linguistics Lab at Queen Mary University of London, talks about the group's research into human conversation and how we can use technology to make sense of it.

Dr Julian Hough - Making Human-Robot Dialogue Fast and Fun

While great advances have taken place in robot motion and manipulation, more natural and less awkward interactions are needed... Dr Julian Hough, Researcher and Lecturer in Dialogue, Interaction and Computational Linguistics presents his research at EECS Research Week 2020.
