The average UK salary for our postgraduate students 15 months after graduating is £29,500 – That’s over £6,000 higher than the national average (HESA GOS, 2017/18.)

During your studies you'll have access to support at every stage in your degree, including one-to-one academic guidance, tailored workshops and external guest speakers. The school also has a dedicated Careers Consultant, Dr MJ Martin. Dr Martin is on hand to offer specialist advice and organise subject-specific events. Further to this, you can make use of our strong links with industry partners including Astra-Zeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, BP, Sanofi-Aventis, Unilever, Pfizer and Syngenta.

Then there’s Queen Mary’s Careers and Enterprise team. From your very first day till up to two years after you graduate you will have access to the team. They’ll work with you to:

  • Give you specialist advice on choosing a career path.
  • Support you with finding work experience, internships and graduate jobs.
  • Feedback on CVs, cover letters and application forms.
  • Interview coaching.

student and careers advisor chattingThe MSc Chemical Research programme will equip you with a substantial profile of in-demand experimental skills by training you in a range of advanced research techniques. We focus on physical learning, and throughout this programme you’ll get hands-on use of instrumentation for nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, chromatographic and vacuum systems, the manipulation of air-sensitive materials, and training in state-of-the-art scientific computing and modelling.

Graduates of the MSc Chemical Research course are well-placed to progress onto PhD research or careers in industry. Of course, should you decide on a non-scientific career path, the analytical, data handling and communication skills you will develop lend themselves to many other sectors and jobs including consultancy, teaching and finance. Graduates from this course have for example progressed to:
