Strategic investment in 25 new academic positions

I am delighted that you are considering applying for a Queen Mary Lectureship/Senior Lectureship in one of our key strategic research areas (below) within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

  • Digital Environment
    This theme focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data and covers diverse applications including the other two research themes below. Successful candidates will be associated with Queen Mary’s new strategic investment in a Digital Environment Research Institute (DERI).

  • Biosciences and MedTech
    This multidisciplinary theme includes genetics, cell biology, bioengineering, biomaterials, robotics and related research aligned with bioscience and healthcare technology. Research in this theme benefits from strong collaborative links with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and Barts Health NHS Trust.

  • Green Energy and Sustainability
    This theme covers green energy engineering, sustainable materials, environmental systems, biodiversity and other aspects of science and engineering research related to the sustainability and the environment. This theme covers research and development aligned with National and International funding priority areas around Sustainability and Net Zero.

Our distinctive, curiosity-driven research is recognised all over the world and in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), Queen Mary was ranked 5th in the UK for research outputs of multi-faculty universities. We continue to build on our achievements to be recognised as one of the leading science and engineering faculties in the UK for research, education and outreach provision, contributing in full to Queen Mary’s ambition to be ranked in the top 10 higher education institutes in the UK.

The Faculty provides a supportive and stimulating research environment with high-quality facilities attracting talent from across the globe and delivering the highest quality research and societal impact.

We are now looking to invest and support an additional 25 high quality Lecturers who will help us build on our research capacity and excellence. Applicants’ research activity may be experimental or computational based and should align with one or more of the research themes, given above, which build upon Queen Mary’s world-leading science and engineering research.
