Solar Steam and Queen Mary

Right now, only 0.5% of the world’s energy comes from the sun. But this film highlights how new funding has given us the chance to change that. The concept involves using panels of plastic lenses to draw radiation from the sun and heat water to create steam.

The steam can be used for a variety of activities, from cooking to manufacturing textiles, chemicals and drugs. Obviously, you need a lot of sun – we’re testing our Solar Steam technology in Mexico. But, as one of the team put it, this could “be the answer to the world’s energy crisis”.
