Research interests: Concepts of home, critical military studies, homeland geopolitics, migration, militarization

Research project: The US military has invested significant resources in creating a feeling of home—specifically, of America-as-home—for soldiers and their families stationed abroad, whether in war zones or allied nations. Architecture, food, consumer and cultural products, relationships, routines, and more are used to cultivate this feeling of home, improve morale, and maximize military capacity. Yet personnel have their own ideas of home that may or may not be compatible with the “home” the military provides. Either way, these feelings have political and material consequences, not only within the military or even within the US, but at a global scale.
