William Harvey Day 2009

20 October 2009

Time: 8:30am
Venue: Robin Brook Centre, West Smithfield

William Harvey Day is the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s annual research showcase, and provides an opportunity for SMD researchers to present ongoing work through presentation and a poster display (the latter is open to researchers from BLT and the SMD’s other partner NHS Trusts and City University) and to hear lectures from distinguished external speakers.

William Harvey Day will be held this year in the Robin Brook Centre at West Smithfield, which is home to Queen Mary’s and City University’s Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).

This event will showcase some of the best cutting edge research currently underway in Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and in our partner NHS Trusts. There will be nine presentations by School researchers, as well as three science “hot topics” presented by leading researchers who have recently joined the School, and three guest lectures. We are delighted that these will be given by Professor Mike Stratton, Deputy Director of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Professor Anna Dominiczak from the University of Glasgow and the BBC Medical Correspondent, Fergus Walsh.

The day will conclude with the Barts and The London NHS Trust’s traditional annual St Luke’s-tide Service in the church of St Bartholomew the Great and a subscription dinner at the nearby Haberdashers’ Hall. I would make a special request for you to attend the Service, as it really is imperative we have a good attendance to preserve this traditional and very enjoyable component of the day.

All the lectures and presentations will be in the Morris Lecture Theatre in the Robin Brook Centre. The poster display, lunch, coffee and tea will be in the Great Hall of St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Pathology Museum.
