Profile
Sobhan is a postdoctoral research associate in energy systems with expertise in power system modelling, optimisation, energy storage, machine learning, and data-driven approaches for low-carbon energy transitions. He is currently work on AI-Powered, Nanotech-Enabled Microgrids for Communities and Critical Infrastructure in Ukraine project on the optimal design and sizing of PV system and battery storage. Previously he was a work package leader on the EPSRC-funded DIGEST project, where he developed large-scale optimisation models using PyPSA-UK to investigate optimal energy storage deployment, renewable integration, and decarbonisation pathways for the GB electricity system for year 2040. He previously led research activities within the EU H2020 ENCLUDE and EPSRC Street2Grid projects, working on citizen-centred decarbonisation, smart grids, energy storage, and peer-to-peer energy systems. His interdisciplinary research combines energy systems engineering with machine learning and emerging LLM techniques and has resulted in peer-reviewed publications, EU project deliverables, software, and a patented smart power quality monitoring system. He has also collaborated with academic, industrial, governmental, and policy stakeholders, translating advanced energy.
