Florian Eßer obtained his PhD in Hildesheim, Germany, in 2013 and received a research grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) to work on his postdoc thesis (“Habilitation”) as visiting Scholar at the School of Social Sciences, University of Stirling, UK (2014-2015). From 2016 to 2017 he held the position of an interim professor for social work and social pedagogy at the University of Halle, Germany. His work links research in child and youth care with contemporary approaches in the interdisciplinary field of Childhood Studies. His latest research focused on the agency of children and young people in care and on participatory research with children in different fields of education.
