Fahmida Akthar shortlisted in Cambridge Spark Data Awards
We’re proud to announce that our Data and Communications Assistant, Fahmida Akthar, has been shortlisted for ‘Data Citizen Apprentice of the Year’ at the Cambridge Spark Data Awards 2023. Her work with CEG’s facilitation team supports GP practices with curated data to inform patient care, report practice achievements and address health inequalities.
Fahmida’s data dashboards are used by primary care and local authority public health teams across north east London to improve patient care and plan equitable services. The dashboards draw data from GP clinical systems across the region and display it, for example, to monitor the number of eligible people who have received a Covid or flu vaccination and identify geographic and demographic variation in uptake.
Highlighted in her nomination for the award is a recently completed dashboard that identifies patients who may have unrecorded long-term conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease. The resource identifies those patients to their GPs, leading to interventions to improve their clinical outcomes.
GP practice income is also weighted by the size of their disease registers, which show the number of patients with a specific condition. So improving the accuracy of recording long-term conditions also increases practice income. We estimate an average-sized practice could add at least £5,000 of income per year using Fahmida’s dashboard. This would amount to £250,000 per year across the North East London NHS region.
Winners of the Cambridge Spark Data Awards 2023 will be announced on 13 February.
