Comedy is the basis of modern Catalan theatre, but is it possible to talk of a tradition of specifically Catalan humour on stage?
Apart from a few famous touring names – such as Els Joglars – who have been the unrecognized actors and authors working to entertain?
Is the laughter provoked escapist or critical?
And can comedy be translated?

An international group of scholars and practitioners will come to Queen Mary to discuss these issues.

Acting, written plays and contemporary performance will all be discussed.

Papers in Catalan and English.
Video projections.
Surprise entertainment.
