Project Title: Human genetic adaptation to pathogens during the Holocene as unveiled by ancient DNA and machine learning

Summary: With pathogens and infections being the most powerful drivers in human genetic evolution, this project purposes the analysis of pre and post ancient pathogen outbreaks to identify variants related to immune response modulation. The project aims to investigate the genetic signals of pathogen-driven selection during the Holocene in under-represented populations in genome-wide association studies. The project will utilise rare ancient genomic data as well as machine learning techniques to reach its objectives and provide insights into the evolutionary history of human populations and disease resistance.
