Project Title: Cell free systems for novel antibiotics to counter antimicrobial resistance.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance poses an immediate threat to worldwide public health. In 2019 alone, there were 4.95 million deaths associated with antimicrobial resistance across the globe, and this has been forecasted to increase to 10 million by 2050. Here, we seek to use synthetic biology and a cell-free approach to elucidate how antimicrobial resistance mechanisms function and develop a platform to aid in the discovery and development of novel antimicrobial compounds.
