Professor Chittka, Professor of Sensory and Behavioural Ecology at The School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences, is internationally recognised for pioneering research that has transformed our understanding of animal cognition, sensory perception and behaviour. His work has revealed the remarkable cognitive capabilities of bees and other insects, challenging long-standing assumptions about intelligence and decision-making in the animal world.

Over more than three decades, his research has bridged disciplines including neuroscience, ecology and behavioural science, demonstrating that sophisticated learning, memory and decision-making extend far beyond humans and other large-brained animals.

His election to the Royal Society is a landmark achievement, reflecting his exceptional scientific leadership, international influence and sustained contribution to research. It is also a powerful recognition of the quality and global impact of research at Queen Mary.

We warmly congratulate Professor Chittka on this outstanding achievement and celebrate his contribution to science, discovery and the Queen Mary community.
