What is the future of the Conservative Party?

Published:

The article looks how the ideological position of the Conservative Party has evolved in recent years and looks to the future.

Tim Bale, professor of politics at Queen Mary University London, said: “If past performance is anything to go by, then the party’s traditional will to power means it will end up heeding Benjamin Franklin’s apocryphal warning that ‘we must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately’.  But if by some miracle, a Labour government ushers in proportional representation, then all bets are off.”

A letter to the editor from Professor Bale also features in the print edition of The Times today. (clipping available on request)
