British doctor sexually assaulted at WHO health summit speaks out

Published:

A WHO employee put a ‘firm hand’ on Dr Rosie James’ bottom and touched her breast, in a case that exposes harassment in the UN. The 26-year-old had just returned to her hotel room after a packed day at the World Health Summit, but the evening’s events had left her angry, upset and feeling like a “piece of meat”.

“We cannot have a system that depends on individuals going public – this means that only those who are supported enough, and privileged enough to do so will report, when others feel they can’t,” said Prof Sophie Harman, a professor of International Politics at Queen Mary University of London. “It should never be the responsibility of the victim, always the institution.”
