In an opinion piece published in the Financial Times Professor Tim Bale, Professor of Politics at Queen Mary University of London and co-author of ‘The British General Election of 2019’, writes that lessons from the 2019 general election show the Conservatives are vulnerable as a midterm by-election looms. Professor Bale notes that although one of the keys to the party’s victory was the ability to “unite the right” with a promise to “Get Brexit Done”, it nevertheless remains vulnerable to a populist radical right insurgency.
