Professor of Politics, Professor Tim Bale’s research on political party members was referenced on ITV’s Peston programme. The survey showed that the Brexit division still exists among party members. 77 per cent of Conservative members want a distant relationship with the EU versus only 20 per cent who want to be closely aligned. This compares to 98 per cent of Liberal Democrat members who would like a close relationship with the EU, and 93 per cent of Labour party members. 95 per cent of SNP members and 97 per cent of Green Party members also want the UK to be closely aligned with the EU post-Brexit.
