Poll of Labour members suggests Keir Starmer is first choice

6 January 2020

YouGov’s first poll for the upcoming Labour leadership election, in partnership with Queen Mary University of London, shows Keir Stamer holding a comfortable lead among party members. The results at this preliminary stage suggest that the winner is unlikely to come from the left of the party, according to Professor of Politics, Professor Tim Bale of Queen, who jointly ran the poll with the University of Sussex. Professor Bale said: “This is not shaping up to be a 2015-style Labour leadership contest. Unless potential candidates drop out before the start of voting, it may take a few rounds to decide the winner this time around.”
