Professor Tim Bale, Britain's Landslide 1945 Election

In July 1945 Labour won a surprise victory, defeating Britain's war-time leader Winston Churchill. The victorious government introduced radical changes, including the creation of a welfare state establishing a National Health Service. Professor Tim Bale, who features on the programme, said: “It’s amazing to think it now but the Conservatives actually thought they were going to win that election and win it quite comfortably.”
