How Westminster Works ... and Why it (Still) Doesn't.

Join the Mile End Institute for this public lecture, marking the 10th anniversary of the Brexit referendum, with the journalist Ian Dunt!

In 2023, the columnist and podcaster Ian Dunt published an instant bestseller: How Westminster Works … and Why it Doesn’t. An excoriating analysis of dysfunctional institutions, incompetent ministers and disastrous policy-making, it anatomised the governing system from Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament to TV newsrooms, pressure-groups and the civil service.

Three years later, Ian asks what has changed – and what is still going wrong. With a new Labour Prime Minister promising to fundamentally change where power lies in Britain, a fragmenting electorate and the rise of the Greens and Reform UK, how is Westminster working today – 10 years after the Brexit vote - and how can we build something better for the future?

If you hold a ticket from June, but are no longer able to join us, PLEASE CANCEL so that we can release it to someone else.

This event will be held in the Arts Two Lecture Theatre in the Arts Two Building on Queen Mary's Mile End campus, which is number 34 on this map of the campus.
