Profile

In June 2023, Lee David Evans was appointed the Mile End Institute's first John Ramsden Fellow - an honorary post intended to commemorate the contribution that John Ramsden made to Queen Mary over his 36-year career by encouraging new scholarship on the history of the Conservative Party.

Lee is the CEO of an education business and a historian of the Conservative Party. He research has primarily focused on the 'One Nation' tradition that was influential in the postwar Conservative administrations, led by Winston Churchill, Anthony Eden, Harold Macmillan, Alec Douglas-Home, and Edward Heath. His current research focuses on the life and times of Harold Macmillan, the 1963 Conservative leadership selection (when Macmillan handed over to the Earl of Home), and the importance of 'Clubland' in the 20th century Tory Party.
