Managing Training
Mandatory Training – Guidance for Managers
As a manager, it’s important to ensure your team members complete all required mandatory training. Completion of this training is essential for staff to successfully pass their probation, qualify for a staff bonus or additional increment, and progress through key processes such as the academic promotion scheme, professorial pay review, and the Professional Services Grade 8 pay review process.
To support your team in meeting these requirements, we encourage you to regularly review training completion during 1:1s or catch-up meetings. Setting calendar reminders—both for yourself and your staff—can help ensure training deadlines are not missed. You can also monitor progress through internal systems and prompt individuals where needed. A proactive approach not only ensures compliance but supports staff development and career progression.

ITS Training Matrix
What is a training matrix and why do we use one ?
A training matrix is a tool used to track employee skills and training, typically in a visual format like a spreadsheet. It lists roles against required skills or certifications, recording training status or proficiency levels. Managers use it to identify skill gaps, ensure compliance with regulations, support workforce planning, and enhance team performance. It also helps streamline training management and aligns employee development with organisational goals.
