Profile

I am a specialist in the history and heritage of Tunisia’s Jewish minority. I am currently working on the British Academy-funded project, “Traces of Jewish Memory in Contemporary Tunisia,” led by Dr Daniel Lee. I received my PhD in “Heritage Sciences” from the University of Tunis. Before joining Queen Mary in May 2021, I was a researcher and lecturer at the Manouba University in Tunisia.

Research Interests:

My research on Tunisian Jewish heritage is part of a wider reflection on the perception and uses of minority cultures in North Africa, including: - The place of minorities in museums and heritage institutions - The uses of memory in a minority context - The history of Jewish minorities in North Africa - The contribution of Jewish minorities to national cultures in North Africa.

Public Engagement

  • From May 2018 to June 2019, I served as the Deputy Director of Museums in the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs. - I curated the exhibition "A Tunisian Modernity" on the history of contemporary Tunisia at the City of Culture in Tunis, which took place from March to July 2018. http://www.citedelaculture.gov.tn/sites/default/files/Catalogue-modernit%C3%A9-tunisienne-FRA_0.pdf
  • I am also a member of the international steering committee of the Museum of Jewish-Tunisian Cultural Heritage project
