The Eizaguirre Lab

A new PhD student joins the group

As the new year starts, the team expands. We are joined by James Bazely who will be working on epigenetics of sea turtle adaptation. Here are a few introduction words from James.

Hello! I’m James, a PhD student in the Eizaguirre lab. I completed an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from London Metropolitan University, before completing a master’s in Bioinformatics at Queen Mary University. As part of this course, I worked in the lab on a project exploring the potential role of DNA methylation as a mediator of phenotypic plasticity in the Cape Verde population of loggerhead sea turtles(Caretta caretta).
For my PhD, I will continue to look at the role of DNA methylation as a means of epigenetic regulation within loggerheads, with a view to understanding how methylation impacts gene expression. I also hope to explore rapid sequencing of the methylome in the field, which has the potential to be a valuable conservation tool.
