Developing Civic Research Culture at Queen Mary University of London

Would you like to help to develop Queen Mary’s civic research culture via the East London Research Network?

If so, please apply to work with Alison Blunt (Deputy Vice Principal for Impact – Culture, Civic and Community), Sarah Gifford (Civic Engagement Lead) and Kathleen McCarthy (East London Research Network representative on QM’s Civic Delivery Group) on a project funded by Queen Mary’s Enhancing Research and Innovation Culture Fund.

The successful applicant will be employed for 72 days from March to July 2024 (with a flexible working pattern) and paid at £22 / hour (post-doctoral research assistant rate) or £20 / hour (research assistant rate).

The work will involve:

  1. Meeting with research leads in Schools / Institutes across Queen Mary to map current QM research taking place in, with and for East London and our local partnerships.
  2. Supporting the organisation of a workshop with London Citizens in May to identify and develop collaborative research opportunities with Queen Mary researchers
  3. Supporting a meeting of the East London Research Network in June, focusing on researching with heritage organizations in East London.
  4. Supporting the organisation and delivery of focus groups with researchers and partner organisations to identify best practice principles and guidelines for research in, with and for East London.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a current or former QM postdoctoral or postgraduate researcher
  • Have a good understanding of East London communities and stakeholders
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail
  • Have experience of organising and delivering workshops and focus groups
