What is the Three Minute Thesis?

The Three Minute Thesis – better known as 3MT – was developed by the University of Queensland in Australia and is run nationally in the UK by Vitae. Doctoral students across the UK are challenged to present their research to a non-specialist audience in only three minutes using a single static slide, no jargon and no props.

The purpose is to tell an entertaining research story to a wider audience – to teach you something in an interesting and engaging way.

Queen Mary 3MT Finals

We would like to invite you to the live Queen Mary 3MT Finals on 30 April from 12:00-14:00 in the David Sizer lecture theatre (Bancroft Building, Mile End campus).

Our three faculty finalists will deliver their 3MT presentations to the audience and the judges. Our judges will select one winner from the three faculty finalists to represent Queen Mary in the national Vitae 3MT competition, which is held over the summer.

Audience members will have the opportunity to ask presenters about their research during the Q&A following the presentations, and we will conclude the programme with a reception to celebrate our PGRs’ excellent work.

We’d love to have you! If you’re able to join us, please register via the CPD Training System.

You can view all of the presenters’ online competition videos on QMPlus.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact the Doctoral College at doctoralcollege@qmul.ac.uk.
