Building works from the 4th floor showing the lightwell
As part of the ongoing transformation of Mile End Library, 342 new individual study spaces are open on the third and fourth floor to provide additional study space during the examination and assessment period. There will be no study resources such as books or DVDs held on these floors.
You can access the third and fourth floors from the second floor north reading room through a new staircase. You can also access the floors by using the lift by the teaching collection.
No works will be carried out on the extension during this time to provide students with an effective study environment during this busy time. The furniture chosen in this space was chosen using the results of the furniture survey presented to library users last year.
The third and fourth floors will close after the main examination period for the works to be complete. This will increase the number of study spaces from over 300 to over 450 across both floors and the glass screen will be installed to increase the level of natural light from the lightwell on the roof.
The extension will open again once fully complete ready in September for the new academic year when an official opening ceremony will be performed.
