Gao Shiqiang's moving image art through cosmological thinking DAY ONE

Screenings of Mountains and Water: Fuchun River as Method and Mountains and Waters: Dawn, followed by a conversation with Gao Shiqiang.

We will present Mountains and Water: Fuchun River as Method (59’13”, 2022), paying homage to the famous painting Dwelling in Fuchun Mountains (Huang Gongwang, 1350), and the single shot scroll film Mountains and Waters: Dawn (14’52, 2022).

This will be followed by a conversation between Gao Shiqiang and dR Kiki Tianqi Yu (Queen Mary University of London) on Gao's practices through traditional Chinese thoughts, the spirit of ‘mountains and water’, the role of art and the integrity of the literati in the contemporary world, filmmaking processes. The talk will be in Chinese with English translation, moderated by Dr Mario Slogan, the IHSS Global Epistemologies Research Programme Director (Queen Mary University of London), followed by Q&A.
