An Interdisciplinary Workshop: History and the Commemoration of Slavery and Slave Revolts

When: Wednesday, September 13, 2023 - Tuesday, September 12, 2023, 12:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Where: Geography Common Room, Geography Building, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End

This interdisciplinary workshop will be based around the rough cuts of two films made by Professor Vincent Brown (Harvard) on the commemoration of slavery and slave revolts. It will involve discussion of the relationship between history and commemoration, and the use of different media to extend public debate about the past. The workshop is aimed at postgraduate students and early career scholars interested in these themes from across the humanities and social sciences. The event will be co-ordinated by Dr Leslie James (History), Professor Nicholas Ridout (English) and Professor Miles Ogborn (Geography)

Please email Miles Ogborn (Geography) on m.j.ogborn@qmul.ac.uk to confirm a place.
