Profile

I joined QMUL June 2022 as part of the Physiology Team, and I contribute lectures and physiology practical sessions to the Medicine (MBBS) and Physician Associate Studies (PA) MSc Programme, on a variety of topics including nutrition, and the cardiorespiratory systems in health and disease.

I have a medical degree (MD) and was a Board Certified Consultant in Internal Medicine, and I have also obtained a PhD in nutrition.  My love of both nutrition and medical science is reflected in my ongoing goal of increasing nutrition in medical education.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and member of the RSM ‘Food and Health Forum’, and a committee member of the ‘All Party Parliamentary Food and Health Council’; in both these roles I endeavour to further knowledge on the relationship between nutrition and health, and ways in which achieving and sustaining healthful diets can be supported individually and at community and government level.

Teaching

I am co-module lead for the MBBS modules ‘Cardiorespiratory 1’, ‘Cardiorespiratory 2’, and ‘Carriage of Oxygen Modules’.

I contribute to the MBBS ‘Metabolism 1’, ‘Metabolism 2’ and ‘Digestion, Metabolism and Growth’ modules, the PA module ‘Introduction to Physiology’, and I facilitate Problem Based Learning groups across all MBBS modules.

In addition, I am the Senior Internal Examiner for the Graduate Entry Paper B Exam.

Lastly, I am a MEDPRO supervisor for students in the MBBS Early Years, and a Mentor for QMUL colleagues.
