Dr Shahrar Ali joined the Institute of Health Sciences Education in 2018 to lead on Quality alongside Prof Jo Brown and to facilitate Research. He also teaches PBLs on the Physician Associates programme (this year: Applied Medical and Social Sciences).

A lifelong educationalist, Shahrar managed regional research centres at SOAS and led internationalisation strategy and fellowships quality at the University of London School of Advanced Study. He has taught courses on moral philosophy, medical ethics and professional ethics, at Birkbeck and other HEIs, and served as an external examiner for co-curricular studies at Imperial. He has also worked in the European Parliament Science and Technology Unit on GM risk regulation.

Shahrar has degrees in biochemical engineering and philosophy and a PhD from UCL on the morality of lying and deception. He holds qualifications in leadership and management from the CMI.
