Profile

Professor Ravi Parekh is Clinical Professor in Primary Care Education and Head of the Community Based Medical Education team at Queen Mary University of London. He leads the design, delivery and quality assurance of primary care teaching across all five years of the MBBS programme, overseeing a team of academic and professional services staff responsible for GP placements, faculty development, and curriculum quality. He is a member of the MBBS Senior Leadership Team and the Institute of Health Sciences Education Board.

Alongside his university role, Ravi practises as a salaried GP in Westminster and serves as a GMC Educational Associate, supporting the quality assurance of medical education across the UK. He has held several senior leadership positions in medical education, including Director of the Medical Education Innovation & Research Centre (MEdIC) at Imperial College London, where he led a team of researchers undertaking scholarship across medical education. He has also provided educational consultancy internationally, supporting curriculum development and educational innovation projects in Mexico, India and Kuwait.

Ravi’s research and educational interests focus on longitudinal learning models, widening participation, and the preparation of learners for clinical practice. He has published widely in medical education and is recognised for his work on longitudinal integrated clerkships. He holds Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) and is Co-Lead of the Longitudinal Educational Models Special Interest Group of the Association for the Study of Medical Education. In 2025, his team received the Institutional Commitment to Scholarship Award in recognition of its sustained contribution to educational scholarship

Research Interests:

My research interests include medical curriculum models including longitudinal integrated clerkships, widening participation, social accountability in medical education, authentic learning practices and preparation for clinical practice.
