Profile

Maryam joined Queen Mary Medical School in March 2023. She is involved in teaching pharmacology to students in year 1 and 2 of the MBBS course and the graduate entry programme (GEP). Maryam is also a problem-based learning (PBL) tutor for years one and two.

Maryam worked previously as a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director in Pharmaceutical Science at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), School of Pharmacy and QUB joint college in China. She is Advance HE Senior Fellow, completed a PhD in nanopharmaceutics at Keele University and obtained Professional Doctorate in Pharmacy from Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, Iran.

She has led the introduction of a number of key interventions which have brought about improvements in educational outcomes, including the use of flipped classroom blended with team-based learning (TBL) approach and classroom response system (CRS).

Teaching

Maryam is PBL tutor on different modules and teaches pharmacology on the Fundamentals of Medicine, Locomotor, Metabolism, Brain & Behaviour and Human Development modules.

Research

Research Interests:

Maryam has been undertaking scholarly activity in relation to students’ academic performance and their views on the learning experience associated with blended and active learning strategies.

She also has particular interest in the development of a range of multifunctional nanoparticles and their translation into medical therapies, i.e., metallic nanoparticles as nano-heaters and thermoresponsive carriers for diagnosis and therapy of cancers.
