BCSC members at the FDI World Dental Congress

Prof. Suzanne Scott and Prof. Manu Mathur, under the chairmanship of Prof. David Williams, presented at the FDI World Dental Congress, Science Committee Forum on ‘New strategies for the  prevention and management  of oral cancer: the crucial role of dentists and dental teams’.

Prof. Suzanne Scott presented on understanding the importance of early diagnosis of oral cancer, covering the main reasons for delays in diagnosis of oral cancer. She highlighted strategies to encourage early diagnosis, and how the dental team can help to facilitate early diagnosis of oral cancer.

Prof. Manu Mathur presented on current gaps in knowledge of risk factors for oral cancer, including determinants of oral cancer and precancerous conditions from the molecular level through to the upstream policy level. He discussed strategies for public health management of oral cancer and pre-cancerous lesions, through a holistic approach ranging from molecules to markets.
