Over the last three years Jayne has lead the establishment of a thriving scholarship community within SBBS, by mentoring individuals, establishing co-ordinated research projects, and organising events for scholars to network and collaborate.

As evidence of this thriving community, each year, SBBS scholars now present ~15 posters at the university’s Festival of Education.  In the last year alone, SBBS scholars delivered 20 presentations of their work at national and international conferences and events outside of Queen Mary University of London.

Scholars are increasing applying for highly-competitive funding for their work, with recent successes including Sally Faulkner and Tim Fulton receiving a grant from Echo360 to analyse lecture capture usage since the pandemic, while Thomas Malcomson and Ewan Main secured a grant from the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) to support a 2 day workshop on designing authentic assessment specifically within the context of bioscience education.

When asked about plans for the next three years, Jayne said “I’m really excited to continue working with SBBS’s Scholars.  They’ve established a wide portfolio of research across teaching, assessment student experience, and student wellbeing and I’m really looking forward to helping bring those projects together and translating their findings into broader changes in educational practice, to deliver the greatest positive outcomes for our students.”
