Professor Colin Bailey presented certificates to the new scholarship recipients in recognition of their academic achievements. The reception also provided an opportunity for new and returning scholars to connect with one another, share their experiences, and meet academic staff from across the University.
Launched in March 2025, the President’s Global Scholarships offer £10,000 awards to outstanding international postgraduate students. This year's recipients are studying across Queen Mary's three Faculties, in subjects ranging from commercial law and international relations to financial mathematics, artificial intelligence, neuroscience and cancer sciences.
The event also celebrated five recipients of the British Council Women in STEM Scholarships, jointly funded by the British Council and Queen Mary. Now in its third year at the University, the programme supports women pursuing postgraduate studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, helping to widen access to opportunities in these fields.

Professor Bailey said:
“Congratulations to all our scholars on receiving these prestigious awards, which reflect their exceptional abilities and future potential. At Queen Mary, we are proud of our truly international community, with over 170 nationalities represented across our campuses. I encourage all our students to make the most of the opportunities available, connect with our networks and communities, and learn from one another. It is particularly wonderful to bring our new and returning scholars together to share their experiences and build lasting connections.”
Together, the scholars represent a diverse range of countries, including India, Pakistan, the United States, South Korea, Vietnam, Mauritius, Italy, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Brazil, Bangladesh and Iran, reflecting the international character of Queen Mary's community, which brings together students and staff from 170 nationalities.

The reception highlighted Queen Mary's commitment to recognising academic excellence, supporting international talent and fostering an inclusive global community where students can connect, collaborate and thrive.
