Translation Studies II: Translation and its Technologies addresses the evolving relationship between human translators and technical translation tools in the modern period - from paper dictionaries to LLMs and other forms of AI. What are the limits of translation tools, and/or of machine translation? How is the role of the human translator evolving and changing? What is the future of Translation, and of Translation Studies, as a result? Combining readings in translation and media theory with collaborative practical research, consisting of in-class practical translation work using a range of translation technologies and tools, we will begin to answer these urgent questions together.
