How is language used to foster a sense of national identity? What can be done to protect minority and smaller national languages in a world dominated by English? How can language be used to promote cohesion in ethnically diverse societies? And can the promotion of gender-inclusive language help to advance gender equality more broadly? These are some of the questions this module addresses through an exploration of language policy and planning as both an activity and a field of study.
