This module will introduce students to a number of key issues in translation. We will discuss principles of translation in general and with reference to different text types, readerships, purposes and cultural issues. Students will be introduced to trends and tendencies in translation theory and we will also address the potential and limitations of using translation software in translation (Computer Assisted Translation) as well as post-editing and the use of Machine Translation. Lectures and guided reading will introduce students to theoretical issues, whilst seminars will focus on the analysis and translation of texts both in English and the language(s) studied.
